Hypothetical Scenario
Ok I know you are not allowed to shoot to defend property.
Middle of the night you awake to find someone breaking into your car. Average police response time is 15 minutes. If you approached the criminal with your gun drawn without knowing if they have a weapon would you be justified to do so? Would you be able to legally detain them until the police arrived?

Re: Hypothetical Scenario
I asked an ex-cop a similar question...his response was "No problem, but make sure the tire iron ends up next to him before 'we' get there."
Thanks buddy, suggest to further break the law. Clearly that would work if your cronies were doing the 'investigation'
In fact I have on multiple occasions have had detectives/police suggest such tampering. Facetious or not this is exactly why you should never take legal advice from the cops.

Re: Hypothetical Scenario
Well I live in a townhouse (rent) where we are given 2 parking spots. That's where I'm confused and was prompted to post. Property would be owned by landlord

Re: Hypothetical Scenario
"Hey, get lost, asshole!" is usually a pretty good deterrent, since someone who is breaking into a car is doing so under the assumption that no one is watching.
If the guy turns towards you and shows any signs of having a weapon (it's very easy to confuse a Jimmy with a knife in the heat of the moment, btw...) or being threatening, you have a decision to make, and that's whether or not you now feel like your life or body is in danger.

Re: Hypothetical Scenario
Do not go outside, just turn on lights, after calling 911, sit tight inside behind cover, with your weapon. Hustle family to a safe place and wait.

This happends to me on a daily basis when im lurking around peoples cars and houses. Either I pull (only if I see a weapon) or they pull or we both do. And the only response I get from leo's is "thank you for not shooting them"
