Kimber series 1 fireing pin
Well Im new and have never posted a thread before, but I have a question if there is a gunsmith or knowledgeable 1911 owner here.I have a Kimber SIS Custom without series 2 parts.I was wondering if putting a springfield fireing pin in it would make it safer because I read somewhere (I dont remember where) that springfields fireing pins are made very light which eliminates the need for series 2 parts. Will these fireing pins even fit in a Kimber or is this something else that would require another trip to the gunsmith? Its not that I dont feel safe with the SIS.I have owned 1911s since I was 23 years old.IM 48 now.I always carry cocked and locked and Im always aware of the weapon I choose to carry. This is just something i was wondering about. Also I have an opinion about the SIS. Its bad to the bone!!!! And no series 2 or 80 series parts make it a breeze to dissassemble.

Re: Kimber series 1 fireing pin
Series II parts are crap. I would MUCH rather have a gun like yours without them.
A titanium FP will help prevent firing if the gun is dropped, but so will a Wolff extra power FP spring.
If it were my gun, I would buy a FP spring and be done....that and not drop my new Kimber.Last edited by BUCKMARK; March 22nd, 2008 at 11:46 PM.

Re: Kimber series 1 fireing pin
The Springfield pins won't fit; they use, I believe, 9mm sized pins. Actually, I guess that means they would fit but being smaller diameter it would be a sloppy fit.
I think Brownells has titanium .45 pins if you really want one.

Re: Kimber series 1 fireing pin
First off, a normal 1911 should be able to be dropped 10 feet on concrete and not go off due to firing pin movement.
A titanium pin is great for this because they are lighter, but they are also more brittle and can break easier during normal use.
You really have nothing to worry about.

Re: Kimber series 1 fireing pin
Thanks for the info.I think Ill just leave it alone.Ive never owned a 1911 that I was more satisfied with.I have a Grand Raptor ll but I dont like to carry it because the adjustable sights get in the way and dont fit ITP holster properly.I have a sprigfield LW Operator but I dont have a rail holster. The operator is a one hole gun but so is the SIS.I think Ill just be happy with the SIS as my carry gun and leave it at that.A couple of you gave me some good info but this one guy that thinks Im a perv because I posted this thread kind of got to me.If grand members act this way toward new members then this is no place for me.Many thanks to the ones that gave me straight answers.
