I saw that price or Mini-14 on their Friday afternoon email blast and thought to myself that I had just witnessed the first sign of the panic-buying Apocalypse of 2020.

Durkin Tactical still has a bunch of AR parts and accessories for not TOO inflated prices.
They seem to buy up random overstock from various places. I know a lot of their complete uppers are Bear Creek Arsenal - you can tell visually and by the copy/paste of the product descriptions.

This item is from AR15Discounts.com (or from whoever makes these for AR15Discounts.com)
I knew it looked familiar and found the same item there.

    Slick Side Billet Upper Receiver
    $69.99
    In stock
price isn't that bad considering it's billet and that slick side uppers are always more expensive.
The only possible drawback is that handguards with anti rotation tabs may not fit on it. See reviews at AR15Discounts.com

    https://www.durkintactical.com/produ...5-t6-aluminum/

    Sold out at AR15Discounts.com

EDIT: Oh look - Rainier Arms has the exact same upper (sold out) and because people who shop at Rainier have more money than brains, it was selling for $85.45

Yeah I'm probably in the SOL category. Was looking to pick up my first rifle in the spring, but it looks more like I'll need to buy the parts and put it together myself instead (if I can find them for sale that is).

That's the beauty of the AR15.
You can buy it one part at a time. Toss each part in a box and eventually you have all the parts you need.
It's frustrating, but that's how I do it. You can pick and choose exactly what you want that way.
Obviously this is not the ideal time to start, but now is better than later - as we get closer to election time, things could get worse.

The things I would focus on buying first - before they get crazy expensive:
    Bolt Carrier Group
    Stripped Lower
    Stripped Upper
    Barrel
    Lower Parts Kit

All the rest will mostly be readily available and nothing else is really expensive to begin with, so if the price goes up from $30 to $40 on a buffer tube - big deal.
On the flip side, $70 bolt carrier groups are already $100-$120 and they will continue to climb until things die down.
Get the hot ticket items while they are still affordable.

None of this is as bad as it was in 2012 - yet.
