What transfer was he offering to split? Because if it was on a lower that someone else was getting, with the intention to turn it over to him, that's a classic straw man deal.

It read to me that he wanted someone to add an extra lower to their order for him so he could buy privately without paying a full FFL fee for himself..and opens the possibility of skipping the transfer.

Not accusing, it just read in a way that opens up possibilities to skirt the law.

That was my reading as well.

There's nothing immoral about getting someone to buy an extra receiver or gun and then doing a subsequent transfer, not even if it's not a "firearm" and you can skip the FFL. Problem is, it's illegal, even if the ultimate recipient is not prohibited.

Lots of folks think that it's only a Straw Man violation if the end user is prohibited, or if you use an FFL at every step. Nope. The sole question is whether at the time of the first transfer, the intent of the original transferee is to keep the gun for himself. There's an exception for "bona fide gifts", but not for resales, or for pre-paid deals.

It's even illegal to buy a gun at an FFL with the intent to re-sell it to your friend or neighbor through another FFL. The use of the 2nd FFL doesn't cleanse the deal, even though it eliminates the evil being combated which is supposed to be "prohibited persons obtaining guns".

PSA now has this for $299 shipped minus 6% by going to site via active junky. Not sure if Sportsman's charges sales tax and shipping but PSA doesn't. If I were in the market for another gun, looks like a very good deal to me. Not buying personally though.
