    Default Taurus 1911

Near the end of next month I'll be buying a pistol or 3.. I want to own a taurus 1911 and have heard good things. Does anybody here have personal experience with this gun? I understand that kimbers and springers have a better rep but my dealer sells it for $400 nib.

I hear and have seen bad things about taurus, Kimber, Colt, Glock and S&W moslty because people cant keep their grubby fingers off of these guns, and have found ways to improve them....just before they mess them up to the point of no return.

"This gun is really good, but I think I can make it better if I were to........"

    Then my phone rings.

I do not own one but would like to get one this year sometime. $400.00 is a really good deal. I see them for $500 or more around here lately. I'd have a hard time not jumping on that.

Yeah he beats everyones prices, and by a lot. I cant pass it up.

Here is a review I found. Sounds like you get quite a bit of extras for the price.

I prefer to build my own. That way, you get exactly what you want, no need to change anything. It is then your own "personal touch" gun.

Look into buying the parts yourself, then look into a quality 45 smith to assemble it for you. You can most of the build yourself, if you have the right tools. But I find it easier nowadays to send the parts to a quality/reputable smith.

With that said....$400 is a good deal though....

Type PT1911 into the search box at the top left of the page and you'll get tons of hits from just these forums.

If you want to just oogle one though Rocketfoot's PT1911 is gorgeous.

I've shot 4 of them. Slide to frame fit was good. Accuracy was good. The trigger group can get down around 3lbs with the right springs which is surprising.

The plastic grips are junk and I've seen two that have cracked near the ambi thumb safety.

When they come out with a 9mm model I will have one.

Thank you, sir. I'm getting tired of repeating myself, especially when it comes to PT1911 threads, so I'll just quote myself:

"Political Correctness is just tyranny with manners"
    -Charlton Heston

"[The Constitution preserves] the advantage of being armed which Americans possess over the people of almost every other nation...(where) the governments are afraid to trust the people with arms."
-James Madison, Federalist Papers, No. 46.

"America does not go abroad in search of monsters to destroy." [sic]
    -John Quincy Adams

"I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies."
