I fear something like this every time I respond to a call. The arsonist could set a fire and shoot responders as they enter the scene, a drunk guy who wrecks his car and doesn't want to get caught so he decides to kill the first responders as he flees the scene, or some mentally unstable person goes on the whacko while on a call for person unresponsive. Hope the FF will be ok.

I don't know if we as a society are just more in tune with these events, or if they have sharply increased recently. It seems like the latter. If so, I wonder why...

i think society has the microscope out and titles every headline accordingly. "gunman" and "mass shooting" are the new buzz words of choice.
