    Default Arthur C. Clarke Dies

For those who dont know who Clark was...

author of 2001: A Space Odyssey, predicted man on the moon before 1970, originated the idea of communications satellites in the 1940's.

He was quite a visionary. He offered a lot to educate other.

    A sad day indeed.
My favorites were always Clarke, Asimov, and Heinlien.

Clarke also put forth the idea of a "space elevator" placed at the equator, and extending to a geo-stationary orbit. REALLTY cheap way of getting to orbit, always the most expensive part of spaceflight. Once in orbit, Sir Issiac Newton takes over, but getting out o the gravity well takes a LOT of power!

He proposed using a form of carbon fiber for this, almost a decade before it was commercially available.

A true visionary, who will be greatly missed

He was one of the best. Always a good read if you like sci-fi. The big 3 (Asimov, Clarke, Heinlein) were all visionaries. Hell, look what DaVinci sketched out hundreds of years ago. I have no doubt that much of what these gentlemen predicted will come true.

My three favorites Asimov, Heinlein, and Clarke.

I enjoyed 2001 both the book and the movie. True visionary.
