Might take road trip with buddy to Connecticut.
No reciprocity in NY or CT. Fairly new to carrying - I guess I have to leave Glock at home and go strapless? What would you do?

I wouldn't go at all. But, if I had to go, I would obey the law as well.

Apply for a non-resident CT permit? $140 is a bit pricy though.

Thanks guys..... In states where there is no reciprocity, I guess could I place unloaded gun in safe and place in trunk when traveling?

Re: Might take road trip with buddy to Connecticut.
That mode of transport will qualify for 926A FOPA protection in any intervening states during a leg of your trip.
However when you are in your state of origin at the beginning of the leg or the state of destination at the end of that leg you MUST comply with those states' laws.
I can't speak for CT laws but if your leg ended in a state like NJ a locked safe would not protect you from felony weight charges.
If you make a stop along the way for non-transit related activities (visiting, sightseeing, other excursions, etc) then your FOPA protection ends for that leg and the laws of the currently occupied state prevail.Last edited by tl_3237; December 21st, 2012 at 06:50 PM.

Re: Might take road trip with buddy to Connecticut.
You could, but what good will it do you? I have a CT permit as well as my PA LTCF. You can transport TO Connecticut under FOPA, but once you get there all you can do is sleep with the gun under your pillow, or wear it around wherever you're going to be staying. You cannot (legally) step outdoors with it, and you cannot have it in your vehicle while traveling anywhere within Connecticut (unless you're taking it to a gunsmith for repair). The next time you can legally have it in your vehicle is when FOPA will cover you for the return trip to PA.
Plus ... if you choose to travel from PA to CT with a firearm in the vehicle, you do NOT want to take the most logical route, which is the NJ Turnpike to I-95 across the George Washington Bridge and up to CT. You're much safer taking a more round-about route that keeps you completely out of NYC. The NYPD does not think the FOPA applies in NYC.Last edited by Greywolf; December 23rd, 2012 at 03:15 AM.
