    Default Preparing the Contingency Plan

So I'll admit that I have no idea what is coming down the pike but I like to have a contingency plan in place when I know there are risks. In this case, the risks involve the following:

    1. AWB - coming from our whackjobs like Feinstein, I suspect they may go with something similar to California. As I reviewed their laws, it appears as though the people were required register their ARs in 1999. Then, the individual was not allowed to sell the firearm, and when you die, it becomes property of the state.

First, can someone confirm that this correct? If so, I have to wonder if it may be beneficial to register the gun to a gun trust so that your children could still take over use of the firearm without ever giving up the firearm.

Thoughts? Is anyone familiar with the CA law? I want to be prepared for the worst case scenario.

In the current CA if an AR or AK has a detachable mag it cannot have evil features, bayonet lug, pistol grip, forward grip etc. They use a bullet button to get around it. It is no longer considered detachable and they can have the evil features on it. I don't think CA actually has a mag limit. I was reading up on the laws there a few weeks ago so this might not be entirely accurate, but that's the gist of it, IANAL and all that. If it has a detachable mag and evil features then it must have been reg'd as a RAW (registered assault weapon) in 99. I don't know about the property of the state thing when you die.

Damn. A retired marine was mentioning something about after you die and I was only half-paying attenion. We were in a gun shop and I was browsing at the time. That would be bullshit.

When you say, forced to register, do you mean retroactive for guns currently owned, or future purchases of rifles?

I remember reading that all "assault weapons" were to be registered. California then did a forward trace on all sales. There was some confusion about SKS rifles since it was not clear if they did or did not have the detachable magazines. Some people were threatened with arrest because they were told by one authority that these were to be registered and another that they were not to be registered.

What is really disgusting is that Police were informed by radio of where all registered assault weapons were kept. When a Police officer would go to a home they were cautioned that "an assault weapon is there!" and would then go in like they were expecting a war. I'm sure that any criminals listening to Police Radio could determine their next burglary victim too.

In New York City, where all guns are registered, NYC Council banned all ugly guns. Mayor Dinkins was proud of himself and his "contribution to the safety of NYC residents". I don't know how many NYC residents were rousted by the NYC's gun task force.

Hm. I don't seem to have his information in my files anymore -- very sorry about that.

Does anyone have figured on what took place in CA? What I mean by that is, how many guns had to be traced? Christ almighty, the AFT doesn't enough resources to follow up on call from dealers about customer trying to sell handgun with numbers filed off. How the hell would they take this on?

If China won't invade us on the ground, because "there's a gun behind every blade of grass." How the hell can they chase down all of these guns?

How many states actually have gun registration currently? I guess in pa they could track down who owns pistols but for long rifles, it would be impossible to track down who owns what when private sales are legal without ffl transfer. Serious question. Are there many states that have registration?

The point is that at some point in time, a used rifle was purchased new and there is a record of that sale/owner. Post 1986, or somewhere in there, all guns sales were recorded. They will trace down that owner and if he/she has any information on who they sold it to, they might reveal it.
