    Default IDPA gun suggestion

Hi guys, I'm looking to get into IDPA shooting in the new year. After doing some research I've decided to get a new pistol for it, since all I have now that I could use is my 1911. Also I think I would be more competitive in the SSP class. That being said, what should I get??

A list of pistols that I'm interested in. I like metal guns but not a must. Prefer 9mm, have a 600 budget
CZ 75 SP01 (not sure if its IDPA legal)
EAA Witness (same as the CZ but without the full length dust cover)
    XDM
    M&P Pro
    Glock 34
    Or??

Any suggestion is welcome as well as personal experiences, thanks!

As much as I love my XDM 5.25 (with the PRP trigger in it), there are a LOT of people using Glock 34's.

I've heard a lot of good things about the M&P Pro, but they are really hard to find.

With me being a 1911 snob, I have found that the M&P is the only other guns that feels right to me. The grip angle is about perfect in my 1911 tainted eyes.

M&P Pro or Glock 34 are perfect for IDPA SSP and USPSA production

Number one gun used every year in the IDPA world championships by a huge margin is the Glock 34. It was designed to just fit in the IDPA box. It has extended controls and a lighter trigger. My favorite is the G17 just because I'm so used to shooting it. I added all the G34 parts to my G17 and it's still SSP legal since they are stock Glock parts. I have to shoot my 34 more to get used to it. Both are extremely reliable and more accurate than 99% of shooters are capable of shooting. My third choice would be the M&P Pro. XD's seem OK, but it see them fail a lot compared to Glocks and M&P's. Sig and HK are also great guns, but I only shoot guns with a DAO trigger. The DA/SA trigger sucks in my opinion, I like the same trigger pull every time. I also hate an external safety. It's not necessary if you use a proper holster and it just slows you down.

I think the Glock 34 or 17 are the best guns for the money.

The XD would put you in ESP class.

Pretty hard to beat a glock and damn near impossible to beat an m&p

Bought a Glock 34 Gen 4 about a month ago specifically because it was designed for competition. I love it! Extremely accurate. Can't wait to use it in USPSA this Spring.

Get the M&P -- with an Apex Comp kit (even minus the trigger spring) and some FO 10-8 sights, its an IDPA beast

If you could bump your budget a hundred or so the STI Spartan in 9mm is a great gun for ESP class... I've been using mine for IDPA since early spring and haven't had any malfunctions in over 1000 rounds.

Lots of other good suggestions here...I just added this in case you want to stick to the 1911 platform
