Default Open Carry is a Bad Idea

I'm about to stir up some controversy, but I believe, from a crime standpoint, open carry is a bad, selfish, idea.

Lott's book "More Guns Less Crime" asserts and proves empirically that Concealed Carry Laws reduce crime. One of the reasons that it reduces crime is because Criminals cannot know who is and is not armed when weapons are concealed. If open carry is the rule, the deterrent is lost, societally. What I mean is that the person openly carried obviously has a deterrent personally, but those around them lose it.

Carrying a concealed weapon protects yourself, and those around you. Open carrying protects only yourself.

I don't understand what carrying openly gains, except to prove a point, that you can. Someone please educate me if i'm missing something.

Rules are written in the stone,
Break the rules and you get no bones,
all you get is ridicule, laughter,
and a trip to the house of pain.

Being a new(ish) member and calling 1/2 of the existing, long term members here "selfish" based isn't a way to make friends here....
When you are called a racist, it just means you won an argument with an Obama supporter.

You say this, but I have a sneaking suspicion that you're not actually interested in education and that your mind is made up on the topic. Call me a skeptic, I hope I'm wrong.

That said, "because I can" is the only reason one needs to exercise any right.

I second the reading idea. I'm sure that there are just as many threads on this issue on similar sites like usacarry.com to look at.
    ...and they have a plan...

    Trollmuch?

Lets try this: A right not practiced is soon a right lost.

Its legal, get over it, whereas there are no laws prohibiting it, and even if there were, they would violate state and United States constitutions. Read the 2nd Amendment.
You should try it before passing judgement on those of us who open carry. Your argument has no supporting data. How would one open carrier nullify the "tactical advantage" concealed carriers Allegedly posses? Most people are ridiculously unaware of their surroundings they never notice.
