"Temporary" Drivers License
A buddy of mine just moved from NJ to PA. Went to Motor Vehicles and changed his license, and was issued a "temporary" license on the spot, and told that the permanent license would be mailed to his home.
On the way home, stopped at a gun store, and wanted to make a purchase, and the person behind the counter tells him to come back when he got his permanent license, as the store would not sell on a temporary license.
Is this the STORE's policy, or a STATE policy?

Re: "Temporary" Drivers License
It is store policy.
For the state/fedz it IS a valid state issued ID.RIP: SFN, 1861, twoeggsup, Lambo, jamesjo, JayBell, 32 Magnum, Pro2A, mrwildroot, dregan, Frenchy, Fragger, ungawa, Mtn Jack, Grapeshot, R.W.J., PennsyPlinker, Statkowski, Deanimator, roland, aubie515, SteveWag

Re: "Temporary" Drivers License
There will be no difference in the DL number between the temp and the regular license. That number is what the automated system needs, it doesn't know if it is a temp or not.

Re: "Temporary" Drivers License
Like the others have said my guess is store policy. A little over a year ago I changed my DL from Maryland to Pennsylvania. The sheriffs office was closed that afternoon so I walked in the next day and walked out 20 minutes later with my LTCF. The deputy didnt even pause when I gave her my "temporary" DL.

Fellow PAFOAs,
Thank you for your responses - they make sense, and I'm sure they are good information - I'll forward these to my buddy.

Re: "Temporary" Drivers License
Definitely a store policy. When I moved from NY to PA about five years ago the first thing I did after leaving the DMV with my temporary license was to stop and buy a handgun(two in fact).

Re: "Temporary" Drivers License
I've wondered about this. My wife went to get her ltcf right after leaving the dmv. They told her to come back with her permanent license... This was in Bucks at a branch facility.

Re: "Temporary" Drivers License
If they can issue a temp id on the spot, why can't they issue the regular one as well? It seems like double the expense to produce 2, but then again it's the .gov we are talking about.

Re: "Temporary" Drivers License
When I changed my Connecticut license, I got a brand-new, real license. Of course, this was some sixteen years ago.
