Handloads for M&P : Maybe I should start thread in reloading
Hi all,
Maybe I should have this thread in somwhere else, but I am hoping I will get more responses here. Tonight I was out shooting the M&P9 and my pet loads aren't enough to cycle the gun. Stovepipes and jams really suck! I shot a couple days ago with handload hollow-points and had the same results as tonight with FMJ's. I uped the powder load a few 10ths of a grain with different bullets and you know the results. Rather than spend a crapload of money on trying different loads, does anybody have any pet loads they'd like to share. I'd sure appreciate the help. I checked the Remington websight for ballistics in their factory loads and my loads should not have a lower velocity than the factory or at least much lower. By the way, I am loading:
115 grain bullet
4.3 grains universal powder
CCI sp primer
C.O.L - 1.100
I hope I am not affending anyone by starting thread here. Thank you in advance.
PS. THIS IS NOT HOAX![SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Re: Handloads for M&P : Maybe I should start thread in reloading
Guns vary. That's why we start at the min load and work up. I'm too lazy to check the website, but are they testing out of a full sized gun.....and are you shooting one with a shorter barrel (if so you'll need more pressure to run well)? Is your gun new and lubed well? Does it cycle factory loads well?
Stovepipes are usually due to short stoking/limp wristing/weak loads, but are you getting a different "jam" on top of this?

Re: Handloads for M&P : Maybe I should start thread in reloading
I just bought a box of Remington UMC's to try. I have not tried a factory load yet. The gun is new. I have disassembled it, cleaned and lubed it and I shoot pistols every week, usually my XD, so I think I have all the other scenerios covered. My M&P is the service model (4" barrel). As far as the jams go, what's happening is the ejected shell is coming out just enough for the new round to start to into the chamber. The old round gets stuck or stovepipes if it makes it out the slide, as the new round tries to chamber itself and then you have your jam. Maybe tonight I will head back to the range to see how the UMC's cycle. If not, I'll have to wait until Weds.
Thanks...[SIGPIC][/SIGPIC]

Just a guess, but you likely have a new, tight pistol that needs broken in and your handloads may be on the weak side.
