AR-15 zero
So I have my Stag AR-15, 16" barrel, A2 front site and a flip up rear with no elevation adjustment. There isnt even a center mark for windage.
I remember in boot camp I think we zeroed at 25 yards. Got a good 3 shot group and then marked this off as our zero with some white out (the windage).
Anyhow I have a few questions:
1) What to do with the front sight post?
2) Just guess at the windage? looks pretty centered now
3) What distance? I have read the IBS you zero at 50 yards instead of 25, this is supposed to keep your POI within 2" of POA from 8 to 220 meters.
4) Is there a better way to sight in?
I'm sure I'll have more questions as this progresses. Thanks for any input.
ETA: I will be using Federal Lake City XM193C 55 GRAIN if that helps any.

Re: AR-15 zero
If your Stag came from the factory it probably has the A.R.M.S. #40 folding rear sight. If you go to www.armsmounts.com you can get all the info about this sight. If it's an ARMS sight the windage mark is on the side. You use the front sight to change the elevation if your rear sight doesn't have an elevation adjustment.
I would sight it in like any other rifle that has iron sights. Set a target at 25yds or so and see whee it shoots, then progressively go out further making the necessary adjustments. Don't forget to change the rear aperature to the small one when sighting at 100 yds. If it had the rear sight with the elevation markings, you would sight it in a little differently (sight in at 25 meters with the elevation set at a certain setting, then when happy the sight gets set to a certain setting to be good from 0-300 meters).Ron USAF Ret E-8 FFL01/SOT3 NRA Benefactor Member

Dude! Just do a google on "battle sight zero". You'll get a ton of hits.
