    Default Is The Mossberg 590A1 Drop Safe?

    I know many shotguns are not considered drop safe, so it is generally advised to not keep one in the chamber; however, I have heard that the Mossberg 590A1 is in fact drop safe. Can anyone confirm or deny this? I have inquired with Mossberg regarding this a few days ago but haven't received a response. Thanks in advance!

    You may be waiting a long time to hear from Mossberg.
    I never thought much about my shotguns being "drop safe".
    In all my years, I've never witnessed one go off in this manner. I've seen a few fall over when leaned against a vehicle, none ever discharged. {thank god}
    I love the smell of gunpowder in the morning.[

    I'd like to keep one in the chamber of my 590A1 but not if there is any chance whatsoever of it discharging with the safety on.

    I keep one chambered in my mossberg500 for years and never had it go off. ANY gun can have a saftey fail and it go off. are you going to be juggling it? if not I wouldnt worry about droping it, take care of it and it will take care of you.

    Again, not really sure on a specific answer but my 870 has gotten knocked over before and never went off with one in the chamber and the safety on.

    One would think adding a hook to the wall specifically to keep the shotgun standing would help, but I guess not when a cat runs full speed into the buttstock and pulls the whole thing out from under itself.

    For me, the best safety on my 590 is empty chamber hammer down. My logic on that is if you break in and hear that sound and are stupid enough to stick around charles darwin will explain why you are talking to him on the other side.

    My issue with that theory is you just gave away your location and the element of surprise. If they are armed they now know where to shoot.

    +1

    stealth/surprise is your #1 asset in any situation where you know your surroundings and the possible location of your attacker. whether it be in monopoly or a survival situation, dont give away your #1 asset...ever.

    Not to mention an extra round of capacity.

    What's your specific situation that causes you to be concerned about the dropping issue?
