I worked the poll by my house this morning, passing out pro-life literature and supporting some Republicans. There were several concealed and open carry voters that came through and I made sure to compliment each one. I don't think there were any incidents and the one LEO that stood there and chatted with me a few minutes was much more concerned about traffic than anything else.

Here is a followup to the whole episode. I called the Lehigh County voter registration office and talked to the honcho there. They were all set to take a message and have someone get back to me, until I mentioned that I had been harassed by the judge of the election about legally carrying my firearm. That got me through to the top pretty quick.

The first question I was asked was, "Were you allowed to vote?" I thought I might get the brush off at that point, but I did not. I explained that the judge of the election was harassing me by telling me he could force me to leave my gun in my truck if I wanted to vote. I also told the gentleman on the other end that he (the judge) was not doing a very good job at his harassment, which generated a chuckle. I explained that I was not some wilting flower, but that someone else coming in might be much more susceptible to bullying like this.

His response was that he knew that it was legal for me to carry in the poll like that, and that it was very hard to train people for a two day a year job to cover every eventuality. I can understand that, but I went on to say that this man knows me well enough to have come up to me to address the firearm issue before I even had my coat off, so it wasn't like it was a surprise to him. I also explained that I offered to speak with the constable. Overall it was a good conversation, with the man on the phone promising to talk to the guy who hassled me. We'll see if that bears fruit. But I have done what I can to fix the situation. I know my buddy Mikey is going there this afternoon, and I would hate for him to get skeered or something.

Hogwash. The Judge of Elections is an elected position, and should be the one person there that is the most up to speed on what is and isn't allowed. That excuse might fly for the volunteers, but not for someone who holds the office of overseeing a polling place.

Nice work Bill, this has to come to a head at some point. I fear we all will be on the losing end of the stick as usual
