Default I have a question for the lawyers here.

I am getting ready for riding season.(Motorcycle) Got to work on my bike and get it ready for Ocean city. This will be my first time going. Well anyway I go to these rallies and there are always those temping raffles. You know, where you can win a Motorcycle or maybe a motorcycle trailer. That always ticks me off. Is saw a guy that was raffling off a trailer , leave 5 minutes before the deadline said they were gonna pull the trailer ticket. I don't have allot of faith in these kind of raffles. Are there any laws governing bogus raffles? Do they have to be registered somewhere??

That is exactly why I don't buy a raffle ticket unless it's for something I consider a donation, like the Maine bear hunt for the high school music group. Most times you have no idea if your ticket even goes into the basket. Unless it's based on a state drawn lottery number I generally stay away.

You can try a few things:
    • Ask to see the prize
    • Ask to see the photo of the last raffle winner getting his prize
If you get blank stares, or Darryl and Darryl give each other that "uh-oh" look, you know what the deal is. See quote below.

I'm not a lawyer, so I won't post any opinions. However, I will point you to a few items on the 'net that might interest you.

And from an old friend that posted his experiences in a gun show:

Local gun club group who says they are raffling off a Winchester 22 Magnum rifle with a 3-9 scope. Raffle tickets are $10 each and go to defending gun rights and their building fund. What building? Free club patch, suitable for patching holes in your shirt. Ask them who won the last rifle they were raffling off. Sorry, can't tell ya. Privacy and all that. Do you at least have a photo of the winner holding up his gun? Uneasy silence while they all look at each other with that "gee, maybe we'd have more credibility if we faked a photo like that."
