Re: 30-30 WIN
Well I got some H335 and Hornady 170gr boolits and loaded up 10 at 33gr of powerjust seated to the boolit crimp and I going to shoot them in about an hour after I load some 9mm for my new LC9. I got the 170's cause I checked for a week for the 150's and no go so I don't mind shooting the heavier bullet.

Re: 30-30 WIN
So it didn't go so well. I normally shoot 150gr Win. super x which are very nice from my rifle. I had 10 of my loads and it was throwing them left and right, high and low. I think I may have to work on my trigger pull and invest in a rest cause I was just shooting off of my sand bags. I'm going to try 10 more but up the charge to 33.5gr and 34gr but I will also load a few more at 33gr and reaaly concentrate on the trigger to eliminate me being the fault. can any of you guys give me a reciepe you like with H335. Also what boolits do you use? I currently use Hornady #3060

Re: 30-30 WIN
I worked up a new load for the Win 94 chambered in 32 Spl this summer. I set the overall length so that the crimp hit the cannelure. I took the max powder charge and loaded 3 shells at 90%, 92, 94, 96, 98, and 100 of that max charge.
Since my rifle wears irons and my eyes ain't what they used to be, I shot at 50 yds. Shoot slow, mine started stringing vertically when the barrel warmed after about 3 rounds. I took the best grouping load from the first round and loaded some more of that, plus I split the difference between it and the next loads up and down and shot them for group.
If it's consistent, pick one of the three loads and you're done.

Re: 30-30 WIN
I'm going to lower the charge to the 30gr range and start again with the H335. I also just went to Cabela's and grabbed some Win 748 and we will see how that does....

Re: 30-30 WIN
I just checked my Hornady manual, 33 grains is near the top. You started there? Data for H335 is all over the place, Lyman has a higher max (36?), Hodgdon online has a max of 30.5 gr.
I'd definitely back down and work up, just like it says in every reloading manual in the world.
BTW, I was using Reloder 7 in the 32 Spl.

Re: 30-30 WIN
I used the Hornady book and found sucess near the top for most loads. I loaded 5 each last night of 30.5 of H335 and 30.5 of Win 748 @ 2.533 COL with my Hornady 170gr RN.
I also looked in my Lee book and the max was no where near 34.0 so I just tuned them all down.Last edited by *Klutch*; November 14th, 2012 at 09:05 AM.

Re: 30-30 WIN
So I went back to factory loads in 170gr win. Super-X and shot a 75yd 1.5" group. I have to work on a load cause I know the gun shoots well.

Re: 30-30 WIN
a fun load to work up is the low velocity cast bullet type. 100-170 grain cast bullets with 8-10 grains unique covered with a dash of pillow stuffing will have near zero recoil/noise, kill rabbits at 50 yards, shooting into a quarter at 25 yards. still lethal, but cheap, fun, easy on the neighbors.

Re: 30-30 WIN
I appreciate it but I'm looking for a hunting load not plinking. I'm loading Hornady or Sierra's FP bullets for deer. The loads I came up with so far are a bit soft and the group opened up after the second shot at 30.5gr so I'm working my way up in .5gr increments.
