Obama wants a New Assault Weapons Ban
I don't post in here often, but I heard something the debate last night that worried me.
Obama has a fundamental misunderstanding of the Constitution of the United States, or he simply does not support it.
When mentioning the 2nd amendment he mentioned only 1 of the reasons cited by the federalist papers and the framers of the reason behind the second amendment - Self Defense.
The other big reason the 2nd amendment exists? The ability to overthrow a government that has gone rogue, and violates the rights of the people. This was a very important part of the amendment. It is why it talks about the militia (All able bodied males between 18-45 years of age). The 2nd amendment stopped a land invasion to even be considered by the Japanese or Germans in WW2.
While I believe that most on this site are probably republican I want to reach out to those that are not.
First they came for the "Assault Weapons", and you said nothing, because you were a hunter with a bolt action and carried a pistol for self defense. Then they came for your pistol and you said nothing because they promised they would protect you with cctv cameras, and more police, then they came for your bolt action rifle, and you had no way of stopping them. Then they came for you.
This has happened MULTIPLE times in the last 100 years. In the Soviet Union, In China, in Cuba, South American Nations, Germany... to many to list - It always seems to end in tyranny, now with no way to stop it.
People have a fundamental right to defend themselves from criminals, and oppression. This right comes not from the constitution, but from our creato. COTUS just enumerates those rights as limiter on government. Banning military grade small arms from private ownership, bans people from stopping oppression.
Please stand up for your rights, and your right to fight tyranny should the need ever arise.Voluntary transactions are the only moral kind.

Re: Obama wants a New Assault Weapons Ban
Not gonna happen. Oh, it'll make the anti's happy, but the Dems are far too afraid of losing further ground in Congress at the mid-term and overall in 2016 to support it in sufficient numbers to pass. It's just posturing and appeasement of the base.

Re: Obama wants a New Assault Weapons Ban
I agree.
Even if there is four more years I don't see much happening.
The last four years has been nothing but rumors and its been
wonderful for gun sales. I gota laugh everytime I think about
going to the York Gun Show that Febuary after Obama was elected.
It was packed and people were buying anything with a Trigger.

I dont know the probability but what would stop an executive order since Congress wont pass it.

Re: Obama wants a New Assault Weapons Ban
On the other side of the coin, Romney didn't exactly say he wouldn't sign a ban if it came across his desk. When asked about the Massachusetts AWB, he said he was able to get both sides to work together.

Re: Obama wants a New Assault Weapons Ban
I think this is the first time i have ever heard our president officially say that he wants to instate a "weapons that look like assault weapons" ban.
And Romney's response really didn't do it for me.
