Default Cheap, decent quality gun safes?

I am wanting to get a gun safe that is decent sized (16 cubic feet or larger) that is of decent quality and affordable. The cheapest ones that I have been able to find that meet my criteria and whose sides aren't as thin as aluminum foil are around $900.00 (link below).

Can anyone point me in the direction of a decent, cheaper safe?

Set up a Google search to watch CraigsList, as well. Probably a fairly common thing in estate sales, and the sort of white elephant that lots of kids with no interest are really motivated to get rid of, if you'll move it.

I'd like to get one of those Tractor supply safes but I just can't bring myself to buy a safe with an electronic lock. Which all fo the inexpensive ones have nowadays.

I do find it curious that the outside height is 60" and the inside height is 59.75". Obviously, there is no fire protection and only one sheet of metal on the floor and ceiling. Not a deal breaker for $500, but I've never seen that before.

I got one of the Winchester safes from Tractor Supply.

    Something like 450 LBS.

So that is not an aluminum safe.

Plus, the fire rating is better than a lot of the others.

I was leery of the electronic opening at first but I am comfortable with it now.

    I like it a lot.

    Great safe for the cost.

    God bless!!

If you can hold out a month and a half I would wait for the holiday (Black Friday) sale ads. I have seen some great deals the past few years that have me considering a 2nd safe.

One other piece of advice... go as big as you can afford. Otherwise you will quickly outgrow it.

What level of fire rating are you looking for? Most of the low to moderate priced models offer 30-45 minutes at 1200 degrees. If you jump to the 1 hour rating the price climbs quickly. Most residential fires are under control in 30 minutes and don't reach 1200 degrees.
