Philly Gun Permit Unit closed?
Does anyone know why the Philly police website shows "Gun Permit Unit closed" ?
Applied for renewal and my 45 days was up about a week ago. I was going to call to see if I could get status/update and found the above remark on their website.
What's up?
I did see this:
Philadelphia Gun Permit Unit – Temporarily Closed?
In an interesting turn of events, the Philadelphia Police Department’s Gun Permit Unit is currently listed as “temporarily closed” on its website in the wake of its and the L&I Board of Review’s unlawful disclosure of license to carry firearm applicant’s confidential information which I discussed in my previous blog post, Has Philadelphia Revealed Your License to Carry Firearms Information? If So, Call Us Today. This could be a sign that the City is preparing for lawsuits to be filed against it in relation to the disclosures.
If you or anyone you know has had their LTCF information disclosed by the Philadelphia Police Department, contact us to discuss your options.

Re: Philly Gun Permit Unit closed?
I was just there a couple of weeks ago, after the new L&I website was released with the gun permit appeals data.
Ugh, I hope I can still get my renewal -- they have my card back there in that office somewhere.

Re: Philly Gun Permit Unit closed?
Thanks.
Any info would be helpful- old permit is now expired and new one not issued (3rd time renewing). Does Philly actually issue or does the state? Would expired permit continue to apply since Philly has not reissued?
This does not seem to be good for Philly carry.

Re: Philly Gun Permit Unit closed?
Each Pennsylvania COUNTY issues permits in the Commonwealth.
Philly PD's Gun Permit Unit issues on behalf of the City of Philadelphia under the Home Rule Charter; if they deny then it goes to the Phila. Dept of Licenses and Inspections for non-court appeal and the final answer for the county. If they say no, then you sue them in Common Pleas in the First Judicial District.
Phila does have a Sheriff's Office but it is so f'ing corrupt you would never want them to ever have the responsibility of issuing. In Phila the function of the Sheriff is heavily neutered. Only responsibilities it has is prisoner transport for the Holmesburg Hotels to the CJC, eviction orders from Equity Court or Landlord-Tenant Court, and tax & foreclosure auctions, but not any vehicle auctions.Last edited by ArcticSplash; September 24th, 2012 at 12:40 PM.

Re: Philly Gun Permit Unit closed?
I see.
And if they are "Temporarily Closed" what legal implications might that have (for the city, state, citizen looking to carry)?
I mean- that's it no more concealed carry for Philly?
It's rhetorical I guess- don't expect you to have an answer at hand
By the way- that blog post I linked to shows the date August 27- so it looks like the Permit Unit has been closed at least since then? That doesn't bode well.Last edited by zaxbo; September 24th, 2012 at 12:44 PM.

Re: Philly Gun Permit Unit closed?
Well I went on Phila Police website and couldn't find the gun permit unit, so I searched site and got this:
http://www.phillypolice.com/gun-perm...rarily-closed/
Gun Permit Unit Temporarily Closed
So I don't know how long it's been closed, or if it isn't closed and website isn't updated, or what.
