    Default I love irony

So, I have a really old computer from 1999, and haven't really been able to pick up a new one, due to funds. Its always been rather slow, especially when those weird smiley face ads came up. But, its a very reliable computer.

Nonetheless, I decided I'd try and find a new one. A forum member helped me out and we found another forum member selling one way cheaper than we planned otherwise. So I jumped on it. This was within the past week. I figure I'll pick it up Sunday at or after the shoot.

Well tonight, I get hungry, and go get something to eat. I come back, my computer is frozen. Nothing new, I just restart. Hit the power button to turn it back on. BEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEP beep beep. Black. Nothing. Power stays on, but its just a black screen. My good old reliable thing just gave out on me. Or my monitor, but it doesn't seem likely. I can't help but laugh at how ironic that is. I guess she was just waiting till I found something better....

When there's a long BEEEEEEP during the boot up, it means there's a problem with the motherboard. Possibly the CMOS. It might be as simple a fix as replacing the battery on hte motherboard. Or the whole board could be taking a dump.

I'm not a computer tech so I make no claim of actually knowing what I'm talking about. :P

Right now, I'm using my school supplied computer (cyber school). Due back in May.

I don't think I'll mess with that old thing. I'm bad with computers as it is, and me opening one up and playing with it is like having a 8 year old take out your appendix. Bad call

    I R COMPUTER TECH

So.... pop open the case, figure out what kind of Mobo it is. Sticker should be near the CPU. Google it for the error codes, or give the manufacturer a call.

Before anything else, however, make sure everything is firmly seated, both plugs and everything internally.

Josh, you should keep that as a linux box. Ubuntu makes a damn fine OS and it should be superfast with your new machine. Actually, a stripped distro should even run on your old box too...
