Homemade Ghille
What would be the easy way to build a ghille suit? for summer grass feilds. sheet or shirt ? what materials should I use ? I'm hoping this will be cheaper than a RANCHO SAFRI setup.

Re: Homemade Ghille
True burlap bag material works really well, not the nylon crap - but burlap.. Just die strips of it to various colors of the environment you'll be in then tie or attach the strips to a net type fabric.
You can cut the burlap in to various widths and fray the ends too. Adding in natural materials like sticks, leaves and such as needed.
I've seen guys use casting nets with the weights removed as the base to attach the burlap or other materials.RIP: SFN, 1861, twoeggsup, Lambo, jamesjo, JayBell, 32 Magnum, Pro2A, mrwildroot, dregan, Frenchy, Fragger, ungawa, Mtn Jack, Grapeshot, R.W.J., PennsyPlinker, Statkowski, Deanimator, roland, aubie515

Re: Homemade Ghille
When I made mine for paintball i used potato sacks...dyed t shirt strips and small cut pieces of camo fabric.
I got a net from a cheap street hockey net that was black and attached the stuff to there.
worked really well.

Re: Homemade Ghille
The way I've always made them was to get a roll of camo netting, lay it out, form a hood, then puch holes in it and tie random scraps of cloth (old cloths etc.) to it working from the bottom up. Be sure to use a lot of browns and tans along with the green. Ive used them to great effect in paintball for years now.

Re: Homemade Ghille
+1 to what Knight said. I have yet to make a ghillie suit myself but have seen several in real life and tons in photos and done a great deal of research on making them. The best ones that I have seen that also seemed to be some of the toughest were the ones where the "jute" was made from burlap. They just seem to have a really good consitency, they're tough and you can make the burlap as fine or thick as you like.

Re: Homemade Ghille
Set your orange had out on a pile of dead grass. Leave it there for a couple weeks. Sneak up to that spot, put hat on head, shoot gophers.
Don't forget to make one for your dog.
