    Default PICS backround check denied

I was denied by PICS recently from purchasing a firearm. I am now 28 years old. Can this actually stop me from purchasing a Firearm???

Im going to send in the Challenge form and see.

Thanks for any answers I can Get

Could just be a mix up... Some people refuse to put their social on the 4473 and when they do the background check, they get mistaken for another person... Maybe you're a terrorist and the government just hasn't told you yet? lol

Seriously, it was probably just a mistake. Send in the challenge form, do a PATCH check online for 10 bucks, and be sure nothing comes up...

Mistakes are still made... Go to ujsportal.pacourts.us and put your name in there without your birth date or county and select criminal as the docket type. See if someone has a name similar to yours. Any other way you could be prohibited? At one point in time were you committed to a mental ward without your consent? A 302 will make you prohibited rather soundly...

Is this your first time buying a gun, or have you been successful in the past?

Juvenile matters will not show up in the court dockets.

I will agree with everyone here. If you haven't been in trouble in all that time *and* that many people show up with your name, then it is likely a mixup. Do the PATCH check to make sure nothing shows up and keep the results.

After that, you need to submit a challenge to the PICS system. This is how they correct errors like the one in your case. Fill out the form to the best of your knowledge and mail it in. I've attached the relevant statute below.

    *EDIT*

I would also include your PATCH check form with the challenge paperwork, especially if it comes back clean. Here is the link to the state police website in regards to challenging the denial:

    http://www.portal.state.pa.us/portal...&css=L2&mode=2

    § 33.121. PICS firearm acquisition/license to carry/denial challenge.

    (a) The PICS firearm acquisition/license to carry/denial challenge form, shall be furnished to licensed firearms dealers and county sheriffs in this Commonwealth, to be provided to individuals upon request, who are denied the ability to purchase or acquire a firearm, as defined in section 6111.2 of the act (relating to firearms sales surcharge) or a license to carry a firearm, based upon a PICS firearms background check determination. A written request for these forms may be directed to the State Police, Attention: Firearm Unit, 1800 Elmerton Avenue, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania 17110. Forms shall be furnished to the firearms dealer/sheriff and shall be requested at least 3 weeks prior to the time of actual need.

    (b) The PICS firearm acquisition/license to carry/denial challenge form shall be either typewritten or printed in blue or black ink pen. The form shall be completed containing legible impressions. It shall be the responsibility of the individual submitting the denial challenge to ensure the form is accurately completed. The form shall be submitted within 30 days of the PICS denial determination by the requesting individual, by first class mail, to the State Police, Attention: Firearm Unit, 1800 Elmerton Avenue, Harrisburg, Pennsylvania 17110.
