    Default Carrying in NY State?

I know this is the PA forum but i've tried looking and am having trouble finding information. I am going to NY for a few days this weekend and want to know if I can take/carry my gun. I've found that NY does not reciprocate PA's cc permit, so obviously can't do that. But I've only been able to find open carry information for the city of NY and that's not where i'll be. So does anyone know what the laws are for carrying or even posessing a handgun in NY State?

My advice is to leave your gun(s) at home and carry pepperspray.

In order to carry any where in NY you need a NYS ccw. The only way to get one is to be a NYS resident and live in a county that issues them. Even if you have NYS CCW you cannot carry in NYC. You need a license just to posses a pistol in NY unless:

A: you are and out of state resident and are just passing through, in which case you can keep it locked in your car unloaded ammo separated and you have 24 hours from the time you hit the border to get out.

B: you are Participating in a NRA sanctioned event and have documentation to prove so.

As others have said, carrying is a non-starter. But it's much worse than that. It's a felony to possess a handgun in NY without a license. As others have said, Federal law covers you (subject to specific conditions) only while passing through though I'm not sure where that "24 hours" came from. And possession of a magazine that holds more than ten rounds is also a felony in NY, and the Federal exemption only covers "firearms."

As a defector I can tell you first hand NY doesn't give 2 shuts about you or your self defense. Only thing they care about is gettin more $ to fix their budget.
