Airplane Approved Hard Case

Does anyone have any suggestions for a hard case for a pistol that will meet the requirements set down by the TSA?

I just flew to a round trip between Philly and Denver using this case.

I used 2 padlocks to secure it. I had no trouble in either airport. It is important to check the baggage policy of the airline you are flying because not all airlines have the same policy/procedure. Please let me know if you are flying Southwest and I would be happy to provide specific info of my experience.

I'm a big fan of the Pelican cases. I believe that all of them are TSA compliant.

Thanks for the link. That case will do nicely. I am flying Frontier and just to double check, I e-mailed them asking what there firearms policy is and if it differs in anyway to the stated TSA policy

I used a Pelican case to transport my Glock from PA to FL and back. TSA compliant.

If your gun came in a hard case that locks, just use that.

My Cousin travels a lot for hunting trips and all his are always in Pelican cases. He's always said that as long as he has a Pelican case he is never messed with by TSA.

Bad idea... most of those can be pried apart easily.

Pelican case is the way to go.

Any case can be pried open, even your precious Pelican case.

The most important part is the suitcase, make sure it is a hard case and lockable. If they want the gun, they will have to steal the whole suitcase.

I fly approximately 10 times a year with a handgun. I did use a pellican case with a certain airline that required a separate locked container, but rather use a small gun safe cabled into a larger black duffle bag to avoid the attention of a locked box that may contain something valuable.

I try to fly US Air, Southwest, Air Tran, or Delta that allows a small locked container in a larger soft case. I use a TSA approved gun safe bought at a local gun shop ($30.00), with a combination lock and a cable that I run through the bag to secure it to a second small safe that I keep ammo, magazines, and other valuables in. If someone tries to take the gun safe, they must take the whole bag.

The duffle is a large beat up black bag on which I place a high quality TSA lock on the outside. It is a functional bag that hopefully no one would want to steal. When I check in I declare the unloaded firearm, partially unzip the duffle, and slip the cabled safe out from under my clothes and open it for inspection and placement of the declaration form. I then lock it up, push it back in the duffle under the clothes on the bottom of the bag, lock the duffle with the TSA lock, and wait for TSA to clear it and send it to the plane.

This works well with the airlines I mentioned above. It litterally only takes me an extra minute to sign the form and check in and several minutes waiting for TSA to let me know the bag is good to go.

I believe the airlines that I used the pellican with was either United or Continental, who were merging at the time but wanted a separate locked container at that time.
