Default Poll: Gun laws won't stop shootings, but voters support ban on high-capacity mags

Voters in three swing states with gun massacres in the recent past support a national ban on high-capacity magazines — but don’t think additional laws will prevent mass shootings, a New York Times/Quinnipiac University poll released Wednesday shows.

Fifty-eight percent of likely voters in Colorado support a ban on the magazines. Last month, a man walked into a movie theater in Aurora and opened fire, killing 12. Fifty-seven percent support a ban in Wisconsin, where a man killed six people at a Sikh temple in suburban Milwaukee Sunday. In Virginia, another swing state with a mass shooting in recent memory, 52 percent of likely voters support the ban.

I do understand the thinking. Higher capacity makes it easier for criminals to kill more people faster.

I understand my thinking even better, Don't punish the majority of honest, gunowner's for the sins of criminals. By doing so you are inferring all gun owners are criminals and not responsible enough to handle the responsibility of high capacity magazines. From there it is a slippery slope of what honest gun owners are responsible enough to own. From there it is a slippery slope of what honest non gun owners are responsible enough to do. Don't let the assholes of society win.........support magazine ownership.

How about this, magazines are okay, but someone looking at nudie magazine went out and raped someone after looking at it. So lets ban nudie magazines and punish the millions of honest, non raping men who look at them for that persons actions. Once they are gone lets look at swimsuit issues, they sure can be tantalizing. Let's ban them because there is one out of 5 million people who get excited and might be tempted fulfill their urges in an illegal way. Once they are banned, lets go after magazines that have provocative ads in them. And so on and so on.

The above makes as much sense to me as banning gun magazines. It's ridiculous.

Note that despite our 1A and 2A there are constitutional laws restricting both gun magazines and printed magazines. Think high-capacity gun magazines (in some states) and kiddie porn magazines.

    The issues are political ones.

If given the choice between 10 round magazines and NO black rifles at all, I'd rather have the black rifles.

I just hope nothing changes from what it is now, unless it's less restriction.

    NO!!! BULLSHIT!!!

Give the Antis an inch, they'll take three feet. First you dont need 10 round magazines, then you dont need collapsible stocks, you dont need a red dot, hell, why do YOU need an AR, only the military needs those.

Dont give the bastards a nut-sack hair's width of compromise. WE loose in the end.

Check out the UK to see where compromise gets you. Hell, look at NYC.

It's time to nut up or shut up. Look at what happened in '94? Dont think they learned their lesson from that? Instead of going for the whole gun, they will go after us piece at a time. Like cancer, antis are patient and will rot us from the core before they go for the kill. Do what I did, call your local reps and tell them that you do not condone the stupidity of a 10 round magazine ban as it wont do a damn thing except advance gun control. Wont hurt to remind them of an NRA membership either.

Hell, we should go after the antis for making people fall victim to crazies and ne'er do wells with their asinine gun control laws.

Right on, I am tired of this chicken little bullshit of the sky is falling and the government will arrive any moment to confiscate our firearms because the Liberals demand it. Why aren't we coming after the anti's and keeping them on the defensive? I am sure if we put in the effort politically and called them out on their stupidity they would eventually fuck off.

Because the vast majority of the media is on their side! And there is virtually NO WAY we can get our story out! Even articles that are supposed to be neutral end up with a negative slant. Think about it, if there's a group of hunters they always pick the guy that looks like Elmer Fudd. If they go to cover a pistol tournament, they talk to the jerk with missing teeth, wearing camo and ignore the guy wearing chinos and a decent shirt.
