Finally turned an Anti
Have worked with this woman now for several years. She is married to a local LEO and when I first met her, her stance was that only the military and LEO's should have guns, that's it, end of conversation. Gave her facts and showed her where her logic failed but she wouldn't budge. When ANY gun related incidences happened, we would discuss it and I would explain how a law abiding gun owner may have been able to mitigate the outcome. She started to agree, although I could tell she did it begrudgingly. I would give her the "Armed Citizen" page out of the American Rifleman every month and ask her to think about what the outcome would have been if these people hadn't defended themselves. Little by little she started to come around and started asking me more questions. We would discuss the shootings that have happened, the PA firearms law, and other gun related things she wanted toi discuss. She surprised me one day and agreed that "gun free" zones didn't do any good.
Well, she stopped by my desk last week (I wasn't on the road) and told me that I won, that I had convinced her that people needed to take the appropriate measures to protect themselves. She asked me to help her get a handgun that would be suitable for her and how to go about getting her LTCF.
She stopped by the shop on Saturday and I had a selection of handguns for her to handle and gave her the ins and outs of each, how they operated, etc. She's not a true newbie to guns but she wanted to pick it out without "help" from her husband. She does not want a semi auto at this point. She has prretty much settled on a SP101, so I'm now in the process of finding one for her. We're going to the range with my SP101 and various types of ammo (practice - 148 gr HBWC, 2.5 grs of RedDot - very mild and makes a nice hole in the paper that is easily seen, up through some more potent SD rounds) when I get back (I'm in KC this week) to see if she likes the gun or wants to try some others.
She also got the application for her LTCF and asked if I would be a reference (hell yes). She also surprised me and told me that she talked to her daughter (just turned 21) and she is also going to get her LTCF at the same time (I'll be a reference for her also). Both of them will then be getting more advanced training.
It took a while (about 3 years), but she is now firmly in the pro gun camp. Now I have to work on our head of HR, she is still firmly anti.

It's a great feeling isn't it?
Let us hope for the best, but let us also prepare for the worst.

Re: Finally turned an Anti
In turning 1 of us , 1 chance in 1,000,000,000,000,000,000 --and that might
be optimistic . The only way I could see that happening is because of age or sickness , mental or physical . It's like the roots of a tree , there for life and we are rooted .
Wow , I see I posted twice , I'm very tired , sorry.Last edited by dman; July 25th, 2012 at 10:15 AM.
