Ice-T & Guns: Rapper Says 'United States Is Based On Guns'

Rapper and actor Ice-T has come out against increased gun control legislation in the wake of the Aurora shooting at a "Dark Knight Rises" midnight showing, arguing that the "United States is based on guns."
Speaking on London's Channel 4 (via Mediaite), the "godfather of gangster rap" essentially argued the "guns don't kill people, people do" route (those are not Ice's words). "If somebody wants to kill people, they don’t need a gun to do it," he said. "You can strap explosives on your body. They do that all the time."
He also quoted rapper KRS-One's infamous song "Sound of Da Police." "Like KRS said, you're never going to have justice on stolen land," Ice added.
The rapper said that weapons are necessary to protect oneself from police. He also said he'd be glad to turn in his weapon after everyone else.
Ice's comments come in the week after 12 people were killed and another 59 were injured when a young man walked into a midnight screening of "The Dark Knight Rises" and began spraying gunfire into the crowded theater.
The entertainment community has had a varied response to the incident. Jason Alexander and Andy Richter are among those who have come out in support of stricter gun laws. Heath Ledger's father shared similar sentiments.
James Holmes was identified as the suspect in the shooting, and he has appeared in court.

I like Ice-T. It's kinda cool I've been next to him in SVU.
But... I wonder how come gangsta rapper is not prohibited from owning firearms, since most of them have rather impressive rap sheets.Je suis déplorable

I saw the Ice-T bit on Youtube, and I was very surprised. I thought he'd be echoing the typical mainstream nonsense, but instead, he comes out in defense of American liberty and values. Good for him.
He actually did very well, in my opinion. He's not a pundit or academic or journalist, who are well versed in debate and what moves to make on camera. He did well, and even visibly tripped up the interviewer with his 'too the point' and succinct style while making excellent points.

Honestly ive been looking at the comments on all these post colorado articles, and overwhelmingly people are not calling for gun control. They're doing the exact opposite.

As a former Army Ranger i would hope he would respect guns and gun ownership in general.

Well, good thing his pro-gun views are more consummate than his acting ability.
