Thumbs up I'm good for another 5 years.

Went this morning and re-upped my LTCF for the next five years. Northumberland County Sheriff office was great, I went in with the form filled out after printing it from their website. Had there not been 2 people ahead of me (one of which was a woman in her 60s, Awesome) I would have been out of there in 10 minutes. As it was I was there 20 and part of that was chatting with the lady at the desk and the intern then I walked out shiny new LTCF in hand.

The intern was asking a bunch of gun related questions and does not himself have a permit yet but from the sounds of it he has made his mind up to get one. I didn't think about it when I was in there but I should have mentioned PAFOA to him. Maybe I will stop in and give him a flyer tomorrow when I'm out.

That brings me to the one sad note of my visit. In the brochure that they hand out is a paper that at one point reads:
"NO PERSON SHALL CARRY A FIREARM, RIFLE OR SHOTGUN AT ANY TIME UPON THE PUBLIC STREETS OR UPON ANY PUBLIC PROPERTY IN A CITY OF THE FIRST CLASS SUCH AS PHILADELPHIA OR PITTSBURGH....."

I'll bring this up to them when I drop off the flyer for the intern

That's a legal false statement. A city of the first class as defined by Pa law is a city with 1 million or more residents. Pittsburgh is not even close! Bring them a copy of the Pa UFA while you're at it.

    Congrats!

How do we get rid of that whole "City of the first class" crap?
What else is it used for besides for gun control?
Jimmy cracked corn and HE didn't care! Why should I?

Not only that, its saying you cannot carry at all in a city of the first class.
Let us hope for the best, but let us also prepare for the worst.

The word right up until the language " SUCH AS PHILADELPHIA OR PITTSBURGH..." are a quote from 18 Pa.C.S. § 6108. Whether or not the statement is overall correct (except for the Pittsburgh part) depends on what it says in the part the OP elided. If it goes on to say
    unless:
    (1) such person is licensed to carry a firearm; or
    (2) such person is exempt from licensing under section 6106 of this title (relating to firearms not to be carried without a license).
then it's not wrong (except for the part about Pittsburgh).
I am not a lawyer. Nothing I say or write is legal advice.

It is wrong. The language is
18 Pa.C.S. § 6108: Carrying firearms on public streets or public property in Philadelphia
No person shall carry a firearm, rifle or shotgun at any time upon the public streets or upon any public property in a city of the first class unless:
    (1) such person is licensed to carry a firearm; or
    (2) such person is exempt from licensing under section 6106 of this title (relating to firearms not to be carried without a license).
Which both excludes Pittsburgh from the prohibition and doesn't falsely describe Pittsburgh as a city of the first class, which it is not.

I want to know this myself. I know 1st class cities can structure their local goverment differently then other class cities, villiages, etc, but other then that what else is it used for?

Please re-read what I was responding to, and what I wrote. I'm aware that Pittsburgh is not a city of the first class, and not covered by 18 Pa.C.S. § 6108.

My point was that (up until the the part where the sheriff incorrectly included Pittsburgh) the language in the brochure isn't wrong (it's a quote from the UFA) as long as it's properly qualified (consistent with 18 Pa.C.S. § 6108). Legally you cannot carry in a city of the first class (of which Philadelphia is the only example) unless meeting an enumerated exception.
