Shame on Colt and shame on the government. If I read that correct, 22.5 million for 4000 pistols... $5625.00 for one pistol?

    Already discussed here:
    http://forum.pafoa.org/pistols-41/17...-m1911a1s.html

Also, I think the cost includes replacement parts to rebuild the pistol a dozen times after parts break down from use. Or someone who doesn't know 1911s signed the contract...

I think you're right. I'm willing to bet the contract was for that amount. I believe they did the same thing when the M9's were introduced. $xxx amount for the pistols and $xxx amount for replacement parts and magazines.

Another wise purchase from the people who brought you the 10k hammer and 3000 dollar toilet seat.

So another sourcing like the M9: foreign-owned company (Umarex in this case) with a US subsidiary making the pistol, hopefully with all parts sourced in US as well.

No, the contract is worth up to 22.5 million. There's wiggle room for the purchase of more pistols. This was discussed extensively on pistol-forum.com. Each pistol costs $1800something.

Also factor in the cost for replacement parts to rebuild pistols as they break down. They bought however many pistols, and enough replacement parts to overhaul them probably a dozen times over before the frames are no longer serviceable.

The initial amount is 4000 but the contract is for 12,000 units.
