Default I've attained my "Holy Grail": An LRB M14SA.

After years of wanting an M14 "clone", I finally had the oppotunity to afford the one I wanted. So a couple weeks ago I called LRB Arms (www.lrbarms.com) to place an order for one. I went through the specs with the gentleman on the phone. The individual (Paul) was very helpful in answering any and all question I had.
After I told him what I was looking for, he gave me some great news. Since they had just returned from the '08 Shotshow, they had a few (show display) rifles already built and one happened to meet my specifications. I jumped at the opportunity to forgo the normal 2-3 month build time and the money order was in the mail the next day. A week later, the rifle showed up at the gunshop.

    So here's the specs:
LRB Arms M14SA "Gov't Issue" Rifle, Forged LRB Receiver
    22" Criterion Medium Weight/Contour Chrome-lined barrel, 1x10 twist
    Sadlak National Match Spring Guide
    Smith Enterprises Flash Hider

ALL other parts are genuine USGI (Mostly H&R, from what I've seen so far)

Walnut stock is also USGI (as evidenced by the empty selector cutout) with clear DOD cartouche and proof marks. It appears in the pics as I received it with some very nice tigerstriping.

    Range Report:
The ammo used was Black Hills 168gr BTHP and Lithuanian surplus M80 146 gr ball ammo. Total rounds fired was 220. Range was 100 yards.

The rifle functioned flawlessly with no stoppages - rifle, magazine or ammo related. To obtain rifle's mechanical zero (100 yards), elevation/rear sight needed adjustment. Windage was dead on and front sight needed no adjustment to center in rear sight.

5 (note 5, not 3) round groups averaged around 2 MOA off a bench (no bags) with the Black Hills ammo. Smallest group was a 1.75 MOA and opened up to around 3 MOA with the surplus Lithuanian.
Considering that this rifle is using standard M14 sights, non-bedded, with a non-unitized gas system I don't believe I can expect much better and am not disappointed. Furthermore, the twist rate would dictate a heavier/longer bullet grain for optimal accuracy, so the Black Hills 175s will have to be tried when I pick some up.

    And some gratuitous pics:

    Congrats on the new rifle.

But... I gotta say... That wood is spectacular looking! Gorgeous. I bet you could put some wax on that and shine it up real nice. Enjoy it!

When I get a chance, maybe I'll handrub some wax onto the stock. That should really emphasize the tigerstriping.

Now I'm waiting on some 20 round mags from 44magstore which seem to be the best deal in town for good mags.
I ordered 10 CMI mags, which are the current gov't issue.

Have to agree with the others here, the striping in that woodgrain is really slick looking. Lots of luck with her!
