Default Shots Fired University City; Philly PD Response Time

I apologize if this is too off topic for this forum, but I just had to share after an incident last night. I was in my apartment (36 & Powelton) around 11 pm, and I hear shots being fired outside. First two, then after a little bit, two more.

I called 911 to let them know, since there have rarely been shootings in this particular area.

911 Operator: "Philadelphia Police, what can I do for you?"
Me: "Ma'am, I live at 36 & Powelton, and I've heard several shots fired outside. Just wanted to let you know."
    911: "Where do you live?"
Me: "36 & Powelton, ma'am. Powelton Village area."
911: "Okay so what's your problem then?"
Me: "Ma'am, I believe that someone is firing a weapon outside!"
911: "Really now. Fine. How do you know that it is a firearm."
Me: "Ma'am, I'm a recreational shooter, and I'm quite sure that these were shots."
911: "Okay. Fine. I'll send someone out."

PPD response time? 5 and a half minutes from the end of the call. Any alert sent by either University, who both have hundreds of students living in that area? Nope. The kids will hear it from their friends. Why bother with an alert. :/

Did you also call the Drexel PD? They are real cops and probably would have gotten there a lot sooner.

Wouldn't you be bitchy if you had to deal with cops all day?

You're right, DUPD is awesome and has fantastic officers (I work with them through EMS).

That being said, my stupid phone was unable to get connected to x2222 (the emergency number). Before too much time went by, I wanted to call it in and so I went the 911 route. I had just put my radio back in the squad house on Monday to charge up, so I wasn't able to radio it in either. :/ In hindsight, I wish I had just swapped batteries.

Lol I agree. That being said, if not for the seriousness of the situation, I probably would have remarked something to her. At that particular point in time, I just wanted officers outside asap in order to get the situation under control, so I decided to just let it go.

No offense, but why do people seem compelled to make up abbreviations for everything.

UC meant nothing to me until I read the whole topic. "University City" is a local term. Abbreviating it makes it much more difficult to understand what a poster is talking about.

PPD sometimes means Philadelphia Police Department. In other threads it means Pittsburgh Police Department. It could also mean Punxatany Police Department.

I have a friend who used to be a cop for UPenn. Most (all?) of their patrol cars had PPD issued radios in addition to their UPenn radios so that they could hear and respond to emergencies in the area that were called into 911.

I would think Drexel PD would have the same arrangement, but have no idea if they actually do.

Sorry; I updated the thread title to remove the abbreviations. Hopefully the other abbreviations in the thread make sense given that they have now been contextualized.
