Default Positive OC in Center City for Jury Duty Selection

So I wasn't tased or pepper sprayed while OCing today to and from jury duty selection..They jotted down info from my LTCF in a log book and lead me the room to secure my firearm. I retrieved my firearm when it was time for lunch and I OC'd around city hall.. The Sherrif's deputy asked me " Are you're just going to walk around with your Jawn out like that?" ( a Jawn is Philly slang that is used as a noun to describe just about anything that comes out of a hood rat's mouth) I said "Yup" and walked outside...
When I was checking in my firearm after lunch, I was lead to the room without signing the log, when I exited the room the sherrif said" The key stays in the Locker" I said" But my fiream is in there"
Sherriff Deputy" oh I thought you said you were retrieving it, okay you're good to go"
All in all a good experience...

LOL. I remember the first time I heard someone say jawn. I'm still not sure where it came from, but it seems to derive from the slang "joint" only shortened further to be jawn. But yeah, "jawn" is a slang pronoun meaning "thing."

"ey yo hand me dat jawn."

    "dis jawn?"

"naw, not dat jawn, da otha jawn."

    "oh, you mean dis jawn?"

    "yeah dat jawn."

You'll hear these types of exchanges daily in Philly and each person will completely understand what the other is saying. Those who are not from around here will generally be confused and often laugh about it later.

But glad to hear your encounter went well!

I remember the first time I discovered that jawn was a Philly thing.

I was having trouble remembering the name of something so I asked my friend from MD to hand me the jawn. I wish I had a picture of his face because he had NO idea what I just said.

But nice on the positive OC.

I worked as a courier all around Philly. While I wish I could've carried, I was in and out of federal buildings all day, and sometimes over to Camden. I found myself in some uncomfortable situations while serving subpoenas and knew a few people who received the wrong end of a baseball bat while trying to serve one. Fortunately, nothing went south and I'm still around. I think the cabbies are more dangerous than the scumbags in Philly

Jawn orginally meant your dick. It evolved over the years to mean anything you were talking about.
    Some people just plain suck.

A Sheriff's deputy was using language like that? What were you wearing that he may have mistook you for a hood rat?

Is it a corruption of "john" maybe?

I grew up an hour outside the city and never heard of the term before.
I am not a lawyer. Nothing I say or write is legal advice.

New to me. That is sort of an odd way for a deputy to speak to a citizen while on duty.
