Default Millersville student looking for a place to shoot.

Hey there I'm new to the forums and to shooting. I'm looking to join a club to shoot my .22lr near the millersville area that could be afforded on a college students budget. Preferably one that allows for the occasional guest to join me. Thanks.

When I was in the area, Manheim Sportsman's Association (link included) was a pretty nice, relatively affordable place to shoot. Guest passes are $5/person/day.

Except they only allow 5 rounds per magazine. Instead of kicking out the bad people, they punish everybody.

When did that rule come about? I don't remember it from when I was a member there.

Looks like pretty recently- if you check their newsletter they explain it all (IN ALL CAPS TOO).

Ok, thanks for the update. When I was there, they had issues with people shooting the target supports. I guess they finally had enough of the recklessness. I think It's a shame because that was one of the better ranges in the area.

New Holland is nice, but the initiation fee might be a little pricey for you.

Penn Dutch is cheap ($35/year) but the only guests you can bring are your spouse and kids under 16....

Manheim's 5 round rule doesn't seem to hold any weight.

I went to the open shoot in the handgun range last tuesday. I had a 10 round mag as well as a 13 mag too.

There were two range officers there the whole time and none of them said anything to me. So I doubt they care that much. I assume they are looking at the 30+ round mags in ARs.

It appears from the newsletter(which has numerous typos), that the 5 round rule only applies to the rifle range. Which is stupid, but at least the handgun range isn't affected.

The Southern Lancaster Club's membership is $50/yr. Rules are reasonable and members may bring a guest to shoot. You must attend an orientation and a mtg to join. They are the third Mondays of each month.

Club is located between Quarryville and the Buck near RT. 372 (about 1/2 hour from M'ville.)
