Shooting on my own property?
My parents own about 20 acres in Chester County. Can I legally shoot my 9mm on their property? They live in among some hills, so over shooting would NOT be a problem. You cannot see the neighbors house from theirs either.
We have shot a 22lr rifle there on occasion, but there is a big difference between the noise of a 22 rifle and the BOOM of a 9mm pistol.
Just curious what the law is...

Re: Shooting on my own property?
Check the township, borough ordinances.
In Ephrata, the discharge of a firearm, within borough limits, except for lawful self defense, is a no no.

Re: Shooting on my own property?
It all depends on the municipality. Some townships have ordinances which make it illegal to discharge a weapon within the township. You need to check the code for the town where the property is and see if discharge is illegal. Unfortunately, the UFA doesn't preempt local governments from legislating the discharge of firearms, so these ordinances do not violate the UFA's preemption clause.

+1...what these guys said. In most of northern Cambria county it's not a problem as we're pretty rural. Chances are you can if it's a property as big as 20 acres. A simple phone call to the Municipal PD should clear it up though.
