Re: Expert advice on selecting a handgun
Great article. Thanks for taking the time to post it. Now I'm a bit more reassured of my recent G19 purchase.

Read it.
Printed it.
Distributed it.
Loved it.
Cant beat common sense."The rifle is the weapon of democracy. If guns are outlawed, only the government will have guns. Only the police, the secret police, the military. The hired servants of our rulers. Only the government-and a few outlaws. I intend to be among the outlaws." (Edward Abbey, "The Right to Arms," Abbey's Road [New York, 1979])
I have my rifle. Do you?

Re: Expert advice on selecting a handgun
Excellent article.
Your mention of the 9mm brings to mind of my travels to S.E. Asia. The 9mm has been around for a long time and is available in every country. Add to that it has been developed with a variety of loads from maximum to minimum penetration to suit the situation where it might be deployed.
I suppose now I have opened a can of worms. Oh well.

^ your sig line is telling...
If Cooper really thought the .45 was all that and a bag of chips, he wouldn't have had the view on rifles which he did.
They're all "underpowered" if you can fire em out of your hand.
edit: it may be worth noting, that the individual who wrote what I posted...Gabe Suarez....was a fellow instructor of Cooper at Gunsite. Cooper also thought enough of him to write the foreword to Suarez's first book.

Re: Expert advice on selecting a handgun
Another good post.
There are still going to be people who insist that their Master Blaster Magnum is the only thing worth carrying, but I enjoyed reading it, personally.Removed NRA Life Member pic. LaPierre and Chris Cox are ruining NRA.

Re: Expert advice on selecting a handgun
I prefer to use a 9 mm in my left hand and a 10 mm. in my right hand with a ball-peen hammer stuffed into my back pocket, (for CQB).

Re: Expert advice on selecting a handgun
That was a very well-written and informative article. I prefer the .45ACP and carry a Kimber Ultra Carry II. Never had to use it ever, but I'd bet that just seeing the front end of that thing would put an end to most confrontations. Your points about magazine capacity and multiple opponents were excellent as well, you've given me a lot to think about.

Re: Expert advice on selecting a handgun
I just purchased a g19 and had some work done to it and i live in west philly and i feel better knowing i have 17+ on my hip. I hear about the shootings where they find shells from 2 to 3 different guns and i have to say that if see a group of guys up to no good u have to think that more than 1 of them are carrying. Some of these guys i know from the neiborhood and i know they carry. So there is a chance if i ever have to shoot 1 the other also might have a gun on them. And knowing that the .45 is only 2mm bigger i rather have more rounds then less.
