Police called, insurance company notified, gun was in a "hidden" compartment in center console. After all my "gun safety" thinking, I do the One thing I always said i wouldnt do, and left it in my truck. They used footjoy golf gloves once in my car, because the sticker was on my floor board.

    Was anything else stolen?
I would rather die in a shootout than get assassinated in a "gun free zone"

Here's another instance where a car lock box would be useful. I guess i should get around to getting one before I'm in your position. Typically if i have to leave it in my car, its in the center console. But when my car is locked, the center console locks as well. And even if you break the window and hit the unlock button inside the car it won't work. You absolutely need the key to actually unlock the car. So technically my gun is locked up. But a metal lockbox would be better.

Every thread I see like this reminds me how much I absolutely hate thieves! Would still like to "meet" the jackass who broke into my grandfathers house 25 years ago and stole the whole safe that had his WWII issue Garand and 1911, an old but perfect 300H&H, and several other nice weapons as well as his Jap war bringbacks in it. To his dying day 22 years after the theft that was one thing that really still upset and bothered him! To the OP I hope you get your gun back and they catch the scum that did it! A good reminder to all of us to make sure we always secure our weapons and to make sure we have their serial numbers etc recorded in case one of these assclowns hit us!

If I absolutely need to leave a firearm in my car, I put it in the trunk. There is a keyhole next to my trunk release button that, if you lock it, disables said button. That way, the only way to get to the trunk is with the key fob. Even if they break a window, the switch does nothing.

OP, do you have any pro-gun stickers on your vehicle? I refrain from having them because that tells criminals, "Hey! There might be a free gun in this car! Break in, you might get lucky!"

It is fair that I feel the need to suppress my opinions to prevent my property being damaged? No, but life isn't fair.

I wish you luck in getting your weapon back, and I hope you have a backup handgun to carry.

also as a reminder, most home and auto policies do not cover firearms. my insurance co. has a separate policy for them, i just finished adding a few to the policy.
