    Question H&R shotgun question

I have an old H&R shotgun that belonged to my father. I can not find a model number on it any where. I need a new firing pin and I have no idea how to get one since I don't know the model. Any help please

Do you mean you can't find the serial number, or the model number? Most older guns prior to 1968 don't have a serial number. Is it a bolt action? It could be a model 348 or 349? You really haven't given us much info.

A picture does wonders in aiding identification.

    Pictures speak a thousand words.

H&R made several different models of shotguns since 1871. So we would definitely need pictures.

    H&R Model 1908 or 1915 maybe?

Baystate is a trade name, like Ted Williams.
It was probably sold by a store under that name.

I found a site that says the A prefix is 1940, does that sound like it might be right according to your family history?
if so it could be a Topper M48

A could mean 1940, but H&R used prefix letter before 1940 that do not correspond to a year.

Before 1940 an "A" could be the series of gun, with the following numbers actually determining the year of production because it falls within a known serial number range for a given year.

Example: Sportsman revolvers. "S" means 1956, but "S" was also used prior to 1940 when the modern "A" starts.

    You are right.

    I'm really thinking it's a '20's era Model 1908.
