S7W SW40VE
I just purchased a used S&W SW40VE from a friend for $75 with 3 magazines. Anything special I should know about this gun?

Re: S7W SW40VE
Trigger pull is really hard, i think 10+lbs. You can modify it to about 5lbs. Look for the video on youtube, use the one from GunsmithUSA. The other mods involve replacing springs with springs from a pen and thats just silly, lots of people have issues when doing that. Gunsmiths method involves removing 2 small springs, ive done it and have had no problems.
Also the trigger pull felt really gritty on mine, so i polished parts of the sear and striker and it smoothed out. Still quite a bit of take up tho in the trigger.

Re: S7W SW40VE
Its a good gun , highly underrated, very reliable and accurate almost an exact copy of a Glock except for the trigger, in 1996 Smith &Wesson paid Glock $3.5 million in a lawsuit for copying their Gun thats how close it is.
You can fix the heavy trigger problem by going to a Wolffe trigger kit, makes it light and sweet especially if you change the striker spring, some of them comes with a rough feed ramp, ironically the barrel is the only part of this Gun made by S&W and they couldnt even make a clean ramp on it.

Re: S7W SW40VE
1. Good friend, great deal!
2. As other have said, the trigger pull can be lightened by removing springs. Having tried it both ways, I went back to the original setup. The trigger is heavy and has a long reset (similar in both regards to a DA revolver) but for "practical accuracy" purposes, it does the job.
3. Accessories are scarce. The Fobus HK-1 holster is a good fit. You can get a cheap adapter to mount Weaver rail accessories, but that will make holster options even worse.

Re: S7W SW40VE
Love mine. It's my nightstand gun, no safeties to deal with if I'm ever woken up by some undesirable invader plus 15 rounds of .40 is plenty of medication.
