Re: Scotia Range Report 6/9/2012
A valid PA hunting/trapping license may also be used in lieu of range permit. I keep my hunting license in my truck when I shoot there. I have never had a game commission officer ask to see my "credentials" but I do frequently see them drive by while shooting. I also know that they have stopped and asked people to see their range permits and also make sure following the magazine capacities. Failure to have a hunting license/range permit or exceeding the posted magazine capacities of 6 rds in a handgun and3 rds in long gun can/will result in fines.
The reason behind the valid time frame of the range permit is because it corresponds to when new hunting licenses can be purchased.Last edited by psucivil; June 19th, 2012 at 09:19 PM.

I bought them. And I'm certain that many students either ignores them, or do not know about it.
I was aske to see my "credentials" times in the past year.
However, I had 2 people with me one time when I was asked, which their reg clearly states that I can only take one guest per permit, but the officer did not say anything.Audemus jura nostra defendere

Re: Scotia Range Report 6/9/2012
These hours are directly from the sheet posted on the door of the range building, as of last Wednesday (6/13/12).
I have a shooting range permit, but I wouldn't be surprised if many people ignore the requirement, or moreover, do not know a permit is required, especially those who frequent the aux range. A cousin of mine has been going to a PGC range down in Chester county for a few years and was surprised when I told him he needed a permit; of course, it's not well marked at his range as it is at the Scotia range. I haven't been asked about my permit yet, but I always have it in my wallet just in case.

Re: Scotia Range Report 6/9/2012
Im thinking about heading to Scotia this weekend (might as well start using my 2012/2013 hunting license). Does anyone know if they are done working on the road to the range from the Greys Woods side? I don't like using the gatesburg entrance unless I have to. I know that construction was supposed to be completed by the end of June but didn't how well the Game Commission's project management skills are.

I was out there during the day on the 26th and they were still doing work on the "road".

I was there on Sunday 7/8 and they are still working on the road. The range was wide open and there were very few people there.

Re: Scotia Range Report 6/9/2012
just did some websurfing, thought id share...
PERMIT REQUIRED FOR STATE GAME LANDS PUBLIC SHOOTING RANGE USERS
Current hunting/furtaker license also provides range privilege
Unlike online hunting and furtaker license purchases, range use permits will be printed at the time of purchase. Consequently, you must have a functioning printer for your personal computer to complete the permitting process.* Range permits also can be purchased at the agency’s Harrisburg Headquarters and all six region offices, and require either a credit or debit card.
*
Exceptions to this new permit requirement are those 15 years of age and younger properly accompanied by a licensed or permitted person 18 years of age or older. Each licensed hunter or range permit holder may have one guest.
To purchase a range permit click on this link: Buy a State Game Lands Shooting Range Permit.*
annual range permit is $30
can be purchased online from this link here

Re: Scotia Range Report 6/9/2012
It's cheaper to buy a regular hunting license - $20.70 and it gets you the same access to the state game land ranges throughout PA. Plus you can hunt small game, deer and turkey.
