    Default Are 1911s magical?

or is the mystique based mostly on their historical significance and enduring engineering. I do think it is a great and don't want to come across as sounding like I don't respect the pistol, but I am wandering if I would gain much by getting into one.
My current .45 is a IWI baby desert eagle semi compact with a steel frame ( like a Jericho 941). I am very happy with it but I just have that nagging feeling that I am missing something.

I am mostly interested in accuracy and usability, because 1911 durability is not up for debate.

    Am I missing anything?

Attend a group shoot and ask to see if someone will let you shoot their 1911, that is the best way. (FWIW< after I did this, I ran and bought one when money came my way)

Yes, 1911's are magical and the .45 ACP is the hammer of Thor.
Well that's what I heard anyway...

Seriously though, I don't know that the 1911 is really superior to a number of other pistols. It has a particular feel and feature set that many shooters like, myself included. It also has a huge array of aftermarket add ons available to customize it. Try one and see if it appeals to you.

I once heard that Wyatt Earp himself held off an entire raging horde of aliens from Beatlegeuse with his 1911. If that ain't magic, I don't know what is.

    Are 1911s magical?

    Yes.

If you need to ask, you do not understand. Reminds me of the Buddhist saying: "when the student is ready, the teacher will appear."

It’s the only handgun that ever sank a Battleship and killed a charging elephant on the same day.

I wasn't expecting scientific method but I guess that was an answer to the question I asked.

1911's won't reveal their magical powers to just anyone. You have to have a bond with the 1911, and then you will experience the magic.
