Re: Marcus Hook
Agreed. I'd be fighting mad if I was assaulted in my home, in front of my kids and family. They did that because they could and will continue because they were allowed.
Who gets to decide what proper training and qualifications need to be met for a mere civilian to carry? How high wll that bar be set? Eventually you would see few people with LTCFs due to increasingly more difficult requirements.

Re: Marcus Hook
Thank you for posting about this encounter. I am glad to hear the police chief got back to you instead of ignoring you. However, I suspect that he did so to prevent his department from getting sued over several issues. I also appreciate that you were trying to educate the department. Thank you for making sure that was part of the process.
Now, if it were me:
This is what I was thinking, too.
If someone comes into my house, uses unjustified force against me, and in the process damages my wall, there is absolutely no way I am paying for it. They broke your house, used force against you, and damaged your wall. They can pay for the repairs by a professional, any medical expenses, etc. If you don't want to, that is your choice, but I would personally pursue further action against the department.

Re: Marcus Hook
To be fair, some people do become cops to help people. And some of those cops maintain that perspective throughout their career. Unfortunately, not every cop does. Like with any group, there are always the "bad apples".
From what the OP described, the involved officers seem to fit into the "bad apples" category much easier than the "I am honestly here to help you" category.

A gun owner who doesn't believe in the right to keep and bear arms (testing? Really?) and who is "OK" with being roughed up in his own home and this is as far as this thread has gotten?
