Default LTCF: Don't leave home without it!

My LTCF has come in handy on more than one occasion.

One time I was pulled over for expired inspection and couldn't find my drivers license. The officer asked for any form of photo ID, of which I only had my LTCF. I handed it over thinking it was going to turn into a bad day but apparently that was sufficient for him. He just asked if I was carrying (which I wasn't) and I suppose he was able to see my valid drivers license in his computer, and sent me on my way.

Shortly after I was sent to Canada on a business trip. I was asked for a photo ID when checking into the Hotel and didn't feel like digging my passport out of my bookbag, so I used my PA LTCF (not valid in Canada, BTW)

Eventually found the darn drivers license under my car seat.

I've used my LTCF as a second form of ID on several occasions, including to cash a check in Virginia.

Turkey Hill though, will not accept it as valid ID to verify your old enough to buy cigarettes. Which doesn't make any sense to me, as it is a state issued identification card with basically all the same information that my driver's license contains.

I was in Jersey City visiting a friend and we went to the beer gardens but I left my D.L. in my car. I gave the bouncer my ltcf and said you have probably never seen one of these. He said a license to carry firearms like this one (he pulled his ltcf out). He grew up in Easton Pa and moved out to J.C. for school. I diddn't have to pay the 5.00 cover.

One time at a bank I needed a second photo ID and I produced my LTCF. The teller looked at me funny and told me "Mmmmm....this makes me nervous...."

You'd think I'd passed her a note saying 'give me all the money or else' lol

I used mine as one of the 7 forms of ID I was required to produce to enroll one of my girls in school. Oddly I already had two other kids in the same school...go figure. First the lady said she couldn't accept it to which I replied "It's state issue photo ID." She took it to someone then came back saying it could be used but she was looking at me like I was going to go haywire and massacre everyone in sight. Sheesh, the schools sure do have people brainwashed about guns.
    When the SHTF......be the fan.

The LTCF is not a state-issued ID. It's issued by a county sheriff (or the chief of police of a City of the First Class). It's valid statewide, and it's a government-issued ID, but it's not a state-issued ID.

I've wondered if you could use a handgun as a form of ID for a cop.

He could take that gun, run the make/model/serial number in the Record of Sale Database, and it (usually) comes back as owned by you. That should bring up your driver's license (with photo these days), and your LTCF if he cares to check.

I'm not recommending that you leave your ID's at home and rely on the gun. Just an intellectual exercise.

That's a great idea. As soon as you try it out, let us know what the answer is! You're a lawyer so you'll be okay.....
