    Default 308 versus 223

I don't know if this has been covered before but. I was wondering what is the better round for an ar15 build? I am looking for what would be cost effective to shoot because I love to take my guns out and shoot. If you guys could point me in the right direction that would be nice thank you

if your looking for cheaper to shoot .223 by far, a 20 round box is around 10 bucks for .223 on average .308 is around 15.

    .223.
But I would love to build a SR-25 for long range shooting if cost is not an issue

as mentioned...223 Cheaper to shoot, cheaper to build, more options, more accesories.

Go with .223 save money, better yet get a 10/22 and save even more money.

    Buy a .308...go broke...have fun doing it!!!

If you wish cheap shooting at targets, surplus 7.62x39 is even cheaper than .223/5.56 NATO.

My rifle is chambered in 7.62x51/.308, but I will some day also own both the above calibers.

Speaking of 10/22s....if you really do like to shoot a lot of ammo a 223 AR can accept a 22 LR conversion kit and they work very well.

7.62X39 is only $97.82 per 500 at Sportsman's Guide if you are a member.

    .223 and .308 is...well...your first born.

depends...what purpose will the gun serve outside of shooting at the range?
