I am in the process of trasfering from active duty to guard and am interested in the Philadelphia Police Department. Can anyone tell me what is the stance on duty weapons? Is it officer's preference? or is there a specific gun that must be carried? What is the mandatory carry gun and it's caliber?

Glock 17, 9 mm.

Oh, and 'no' to officer's preference.

Glock 17 on duty. I've seen off duty officers carrying that as well.

are there any rumors about them switching or any possible new contracts? i just really really hate the 9mm cartridge.

Side Note:
same questions as above for the Allentown and Lancaster PD's. They are my other relocation options.

I'm sure many Philly officers agree with you, but I think the current atmosphere would tend to make it unlikely that they will up-arm. It would be a public relations problem if nothing else.

No move to switch. 9mm works just fine.
