? about alternate components
Hey all,
My hodgdon book for example has this load:
Winchester case
115 gr speer gdhp (9mm)
Hodgdon universal 5.0 gr Max
Cci 500 primer
Coal 1.125
Now if I was to substitute a 115 gr fmj in place of the hollow point, loaded at the low end of the scale (say 4.4/4.5 gr powder), would this be safe or no?
Same goes for say if I used once fired rem umc brass?
I have not loaded any of this yet, but can these substitutions be done safely or should I just look for a new load?
Thanks in advance,
Nick

Re: ? about alternate components
IMO, you should only substitute with the same profile bullet. For example, one brand's 115gr FMJ to another brand's 115gr FMJ.
Two different bullet profile, will affect the OAL.... and OAL will affect how deep the bullet seat in the case.., which in turns affect the pressure.
For safety, I wouldn't do it. Other more experience reloaders may say otherwise.. I'm sure they'll be weighing in soon.

why not use FMJ load data??? As far as the brass goes you will be fine.
