NJ to PA - Transporting Firearms
My father lives in NJ and has a huge arsenal of firearms. He has several that I'm thinking of buying from him which he is ready to loan to me so I can try them out. So the question is, am I able to transport them back to PA from NJ or am I just asking for NJ state police to pull me over?

Re: NJ to PA - Transporting Firearms
He can not loan them or give them to you. They must be transferred through an FFL.
For firearms, in the buyers home state (ship to your FFL)
For long guns, in any state.
You are dealing with federal law being interstate

Re: NJ to PA - Transporting Firearms
Isn't there federal law that allows for interstate transport? Also, if he is your father, why transfer? Do you WANT pa to know if you aren't legally required to. He can gift them to your if I am not mistaken.

Re: NJ to PA - Transporting Firearms
OP lives in PA.... Dad lives in NJ... A transfer can't occur unless an FFL is used.
Firearms require a transfer in the buyer HOME state (PA), which means the firearms would need to be shipped to an FFL in PA.
Long Guns require a transfer in either state, but it gets kinda hairy when the OP is driving back to PA with them.
The dad CAN NOT gift, give or transfer the guns WITHOUT an FFL.
IANAL but.... FOPA does NOT apply here either, as it protects your travel between states. PA to NJ would not qualify IMHOLast edited by BimmerJon; May 12th, 2012 at 12:32 PM.
