    Default Sig P226 Question

Last night I was watching Dallas SWAT on TV and the team leader was talking about his side arm that he carries on all warrents and personal carry when off duty. He said it was a Sig P226 and shot a 9mm with a .40 cal case "for better stopping power". How is this possible? Do you need to specially order a barrel for that and make your own ammo to shoot? Would a bullet like that actually have more stopping power than just a plain 9mm or a .40?

    Thanks for any input.

that would be a .357sig round.. commercially available and many guns come in that caliber. Not sure as to the stopping power of a 357sig over a 40s&w, but no service calibers offer a big enough difference IMO to where accuracy doesnt matter.

Thanks XD for the fast reply, and now I know what the difference between a .357 sig round is and a .357 magnum is! I went and looked up more info on wikipedia and the site said that the design for the .357 Sig wasn't for stopping power in those words, but to be capable to go through body armor.

Anyways, thanks a lot for the clarification.

357 Sig wasn't for stopping power in those words, but to be capable to go through car doors and windows.

Thanks Dave for even more info!

The .357 SIG, much like the .357 Magnum and the similarly necked 7.62x25mm Tokarev, is well-suited for use with bullets that are designed to defeat body armor. Also like the Tokarev, the .357 SIG works well when shooting through barriers. There has been a documented case in Texas where a police officer's .45 round did not penetrate a tractor-trailer's shell, but a .357 SIG round from a backup officer's gun did, killing the suspect inside.[2] The round's ability to penetrate barriers is the main reason for its adoption by law enforcement agencies.
