    Default Kilted Warrior (USMC Tartan)

OK, here's my official USMC Tartan Kilt (and accessories), full parade cut, hand made in Scotland (about $900 for the kilt, $250 for the sporran, $200 for the belt & buckle, about $30 for the kilt pin).

The dirk is the Cold Steel Scottish Dirk.

Pistol is the Pro Kimber Crimson Carry II

I saw someone actually wearing a kilt at the Willow Grove Park Mall the other day. People were making comments to him left and right the entire time, but they were mostly positive asking about his lineage.

For what events/purpose is it used?

I had a Captain in Pensacola who was a piper with a set of pipes he made. I believe he was also an ordained Presbyterian minister. He was a real nice guy. It was pretty motivating to have him playing at the finish line for our runs, and very sobering to have him playing our gave side services at the cemetery on base.

This type of kilt is considered "formal", meaning anywhere a suit is considered appropriate. You can dress down a bit with a simpler sporran and shirt, or wear a country coat, or even a proper Prince Charlie coat, which is considered as formal as a tuxedo.

I wear my kilt to Celtic events like the Celtic Classic in Bethlehem, and sometimes out to dinner at a nice place. I used to wear it to Braveheart in Hellertown, but several outings in a row with lousy food and even worse service have nixxed that.

You keep telling yourself that. Only in very limited circles is cross dressing considered formal.

$900 for a damn kilt? No wonder Scotland's in the top ten wealthiest nations ( per capita).

But it does look nice. I tired to convince my girl friend that if and when we get married I was going to wear one with a prince Charlie coat but that idea got shot down quick.

I have been contemplating one of these for hiking.

    Nice kilt lad!
Kinda reminds me of a mix of several different tartans. Those dirks are bad!
Thanks for the heads up about Braveheart. I've been wanting to check it out for some time now but in the back of my mind I thought it was kind of odd they didn't have a sponsorship with The Celtic Classic......
